Personality:

Shizuka Hiou's personality is greatly influenced by her past and the clan that she was born in. The fact that she was born a vampire in a pureblood clan was the greatest determinant of her emotional state of mind.

Shizuka Hiou is a pureblood vampire born from one of the two clans which were considered the most powerful within the vampire society, Hiou Clan. Unfortunately, a clan like theirs was both loved and feared by vampires. Rumors of her parents insanity spread like wildfire across their society. Thus, the moment she was born, Shizuka was detained in a prison within their mansion. This was to ensure that she would not inflict any harm upon others. Having no interactions with humans or vampires took a toll on Shizuka emotionally.

Shizuka never had friends. The only ones whom she saw often were her watchers that would not talk to her. They admired her, yet feared her power to undermine them, so they always kept their distance from her. They always reinforced in her the pride of a pureblood. They told her that she was a rare and beautiful creature that was very powerful. And that they had to protect her even from herself. Thus, Shizuka was molded into a vampire that was filled with pride even if her cage should have broken her down. She learned early on that she was a magnificent creature that everyone had to fear and love.

Having no loved ones, and only exposed to the fear of her upcoming meal and her watchers, she held no emotions, neither did she have any desire for them. She always maintained a calm and composed expression. However, whenever she saw Zero, she'd enjoy taunting him and her face carried a short smile of amusement. She always looked upon Zero condescendingly and amused at his pitiful squirming.

Her status and bloodline earned her the respect afforded only to the queen of all vampires. She was treated like royalty, and she moved like a gentle princess. Her movements are flawless and elegant, although her presence commands fear and respect.

Shizuka carries a playful side which is not often seen. Once, she possessed the body of her relative Maria Kurenai. When she did this, she was very playful with the vampires around her, and teased most of them. Her movements were not as elegant, and she showed familiarity to the students in Cross Academy. Regardless of what body she possessed, she still looked upon weaker vampires condescendingly. Because of the powers she possess, Shizuka is exceedingly confident and never doubts her capability to carry out a task.

As a pureblood, she needed to marry another pureblood, Rido Kuran. However, she had nothing but hate for the vampire. Because of Rido, she lost the one man whom she wanted to be with until her dying days. Rido collaborated with the Hunter's association to kill the man she loved, even if it was against their laws. Because of this, she stopped at nothing to make sure that her loved one was avenged and that Rido would suffer. Clearly, she is the type of person who would do anything seek revenge, even if it meant the death of many. She'd even sacrifice her life in order to exact her revenge.

It was unheard off, but the pureblood Shizuka fell in-love with a human. She'd often get human sacrifices to feed on while she was trapped in her cage. There was one evening when the man they had brought to her didn't share the same fear as her previous meals. He glared at her with fire and anger in his eyes. It was the first time that somebody did not fear her, and she was greatly delighted at his emotions. She did not kill him, and turned him into a vampire instead. She was very happy to be with him, and grieved fervently at his demise.

Aside from this man, there was another man that she felt great compassion for. His name was Ichiru, and he was the son of the hunters that killed her lover. She wanted to take revenge on him as well, but his sadness moved her emotions greatly. He was a little boy who was the same as she was, he too had sadness within him that torments him greatly. She met him at the time when she had no reason to live any more. And yet, 4 years passed with Ichiru living under her protection.

Ichiru was the only human in the world which she couldn't bring herself to turn into a vampire. She was emotionally attached to him and was very protective of Ichiru. Maybe it was because she didn't want him to enter the darkness of the society which she belonged to, or maybe she didn't want him to suffer the same fate as her lover, but Shizuka, until her very last breath, never turned Ichiru into a vampire. Even if his blood was the only thing that could save her, she refused to damn the fate of the only human whom she was emotionally attached to.

Although Shizuka takes pride in being a pureblood, she regrets that she was born as a vampire. From the very beginning, she was punished greatly and deprived of all joys life had to offer, simply because she was a vampire born within a pureblood clan. She also pities greatly all those that are born as head to their clans such as Kuran Kaname.

Like most pureblood vampires Shizuka looks down upon vampires from lower tiers. She knows that she has more power than them, and is not afraid to assert her dominance. In a way, Shizuka is a spoiled brat who knows that she can get anything she wants whenever she desires anything. She knows how important she is to their society, so no matter how much other vampires are inconvenienced by her actions, she couldn't care less. In fact, she gains pleasure in watching them chase after her and get tired at the process.

Shizuka is both a sadist and a masochist. A sadist because instead of killing Zero along with his family, she turned him into a vampire. She enjoyed looking at Zero's pained and angered expression when she killed both his parents and was taking Ichiru with her. She was delighted watching Zero squirm and suffer as he descended into a Level E state. Since she knew that Yuuki was important to Zero, she did everything she could to get close to Yuuki if only to torment Zero even more. Aside from this, she ordered Zero to hold on to Yuuki while she bit him, and then threatened to bite and turn Yuuki as well. This not only gave her blood for sustenance, but pleasure from watching Yuuki and Zero feel awful about the events. When asked why she wanted to bite Yuuki, she said that she did this because she wanted to punish Zero for being tamed by Yuuki. Shizuka is a masochist, because she could have just killed Zero from the beginning. Instead, she even told Zero to gain more strength so that one day he can kill Shizuka. Also, Shizuka could have just left Cross Academy in peace, instead of causing chaos while risking her safety and her immortal life.

Shizuka is skilled at manipulating people to get what she wants. For example, she made a deal with Yuuki to help Zero avert falling into Level E. She said that she will help Zero if she either kills Kaname who was vulnerable to Yuuki, or she gives Shizuka her blood. Either way, by doing this Yuuki helps Shizuka get the upper hand in her fight against Kaname.

Shizuka is deceptive and skillfully uses her charm as a pureblood to gain trust and protection. When she introduced herself to Yuuki, she said that she did not wish to be in a room filled with vampires because she was afraid of them. Yuuki promised to protect her at all costs, because she looked so frail and yet so kind. However, when she entered the classroom, she talked condescendingly towards the vampires and irritated all of them. She showed all of them that she couldn't care less about them, and that the only person important in the room was Kaname.

Shizuka easily gets jealous and is very possessive. She absolutely hated the fact that Zero had feelings for Yuuki. She does not love Zero, but she thinks of him as her property. She doesn't want anyone else taming him except for his master, Shizuka.

The Hiou clan is a pureblood vampire clan. This means that their bloodline was never tainted by human ancestry. This also means that the clan's vampire powers were concentrated and much stronger. Pureblood clans are on the top of the vampire pyramid and their powers and influence are great over the vampires on the lower tiers. With one command, even the youngest pureblood is able to bend any vampire's will. Only purebloods are able to turn any human into a vampire. Anyone whom they turn cannot kill them and will obey them for the rest of their life. Purebloods are also the most beautiful of all the vampires. Humans and vampires alike are greatly enamored by their beauty. They are immortal and remain perpetually young after they surpass puberty.

The Hiou clan is said to rival the Kuran clan in power. It is said that if the head of the Kuran was the King of all vampires, the head of the Hiou clan was the Queen of all vampires. This meant that both clans were the most powerful clans that existed in their world.

Prior to Shizuka's birth, there was an incident that labeled her parents as "mad". It was said that her clan would often suffer from temporary lapse of judgement and go berserk. Thus, the "senior/elder council" decided that their family was to be detained and to be closely guarded by the council members for their own protection. This was why the moment Shizuka was born, she was placed in a cage for supposedly her own protection.

As a pureblood, she has the duty to continue their exquisite bloodline and not tarnish it with human blood. Neither was she allowed to marry a vampire who was from the lower classes. Thus, she was engaged to the head of the Kuran clan, Rido, early on. However, she refused to be a submissive fiancee and rejected Rido's ways. This angered Rido which made him seek revenge against her later on.

As a vampire, blood is a basic necessity for Shizuka. However, since she was locked in a prison, the council would often bring her human sacrifices to feast on. Each one had fear and despair in their eyes. However, there was this one man who had no fear in his eyes, instead, he had disdain and anger towards her. She found this interesting. She would often talk to the man and enjoy their conversations. She was greatly amused by the man, and decided to turn him into a vampire instead of devouring him completely like she would usually do. The man found this to be unforgivable until his last breath. Shizuka on the other hand fell deeply in-love with the man even though she was engaged to Rido.

At one point, a young Kaname Kuran, the eldest nephew of Rido and head of the Kuran clan visited her. They made an arrangement for Kaname to help Shizuka and her lover escape from her cage. Kaname helped Shizuka runaway with her lover, whom was reluctant but followed her due to the lack of a place to go. This was a very happy moment for Shizuka because she was free from her prison and she was able to escape with the man she loved.

The freedom and happiness which she felt at the time was short-lived. Once Rido learned of her escape, he contacted the senior vampire council whom arranged for the Hunter's association to cease Shizuka's lover. Normally, a vampire who was turned by a pureblood turns into a mad state of blood lust and insanity if they are unable to taste their maker's blood for a prolonged period of time. This state is called "Level E". All vampires who descend into this level is considered harmful to all humankind and is disposed readily by the Hunter's association. However, vampires such as Shizuka's lover was well kept, and was given blood often by his maker. Thus, Shizuka was able to prevent him from turning into a level E vampire.

Because of Rido's ill intentions, the name of Shizuka's lover was on the list. The assignment was given to the Kiryuu couple. They followed the orders like they usually did without question. However, when they finished their assignment, they realized that it was a big mistake. They learned that the person had not descended into Level E state. That day, the couple rushed to pack their things and move their children Zero and Ichiru to a safer home. However, Shizuka's anger knew no bounds. She found the couple and murdered both of them.

Shizuka bit the young Zero Kiryuu for revenge instead of killing him. She did this so he'd understand the pain that she went through and so that he'd know how his lover felt at the time before his untimely demise. She also looked upon Zero and requested that he becomes stronger, so that he would one day end her life. Another reason why she kept him alive was because it was the request of Ichiru.

Zero's twin, Ichiru was never bitten by Shizuka. Instead, he was her companion for over 4 years while she was in hiding. He was the weaker twin, and Shizuka often gave him her blood in order to keep him from and sickness and make his frail body stronger. At the time the two first met they both lost a reason to live. However, Shizuka found solace in protecting Ichiru and being with him for four years. She never turned him into a vampire. And until the very end, she never admitted her true feelings for Ichiru, not even to herself. However, as she was dying, she expressed her desire to be with him so he won't be lonely anymore.

She went to Cross Academy possessing the body of her relative Maria Kurenai. She used her body because she promised that she would make Maria stronger, since like Ichiru, she was also very sickly. Shizuka sought to take the life of Kaname and drink his blood in order to gain enough power to exact her revenge. It was however suggested later on that she came back because she was fulfilling her end of their agreement. However in the end, she failed to win their game, and her heart was brutally taken from her chest, and her blood drained from her body by Kaname.





Abilities/Additional Notes:

Shizuka Hiou is a pureblood vampire, thus her regeneration rate/healing rate is unrivaled among her kind. Unlike other vampires who aged eventually, Shizuka is immortal, she never aged after reaching adulthood. Her healing capabilities are however, markedly slowed if an anti-vampire weapon is used against her head or heart, or if she has lost most of her blood.

Just like other purebloods, she can turn any human into a vampire with just one bite. These humans whom she turned are bound to her will. They can never hurt her or disobey and question her command. Only one known human was able to oppose her will, and this was because she was at her weakest at the time. The human which a pureblood bites gain power, but falls into a mad and uncontrollable state if they are unable to feed on her blood every so often.

As a pureblood, she is at the top of the vampire pyramid, and everyone beneath her both fall in-love with her beauty and follow her orders. Anyone who receives her blood is bound to follow her commands without question.

She has the power to manipulate plants, and make them bloom even if it's not their time. This is why Shizuka is often seen surrounded by cherry blossom petals even if it's not their blooming season.

Shizuka has the power to possess the body of another vampire and subvert their will for as long as she wills it. It's almost as if the person goes into a deep slumber while Shizuka is free to use his/her body. Shizuka is able to manipulate the body as her own, while her body rests peacefully.

Aside from vampires, she can possess creatures such as birds and use their senses to watch over her target or foes.

Shizuka wields a katana, which she has Ichiru carrying for her on most occasions. She is a graceful sword-fighter and moves with super human speed. Her nails are well-kept. However, she also uses her nails and slender fingers to slice through anything, even the human flesh.

Lastly, like any vampire, she has fangs, which she uses to gain access to her victim's blood. She grains strength from this. However, unlike low-level vampires, she can walk freely under the morning sun.



First-Person Sample:

[Shizuka Hiou reached for the small device called the PCD which was conveniently resting on her lap when she woke up in Adstring. Not that she grew up during the dark ages when technology was scarce, but Shizuka was imprisoned in her own home ever since she was born, and was never exposed to such conveniences. And when she finally attained her freedom, she could easily order other vampires, or charm humans, to send messages to others through any means necessary. So, the PCD was very foreign to her. However, this wasn't a hindrance for a pureblood like her, so she pressed on the buttons repeatedly until she grasped the use of the PCD. From time to time, a woman with long white hair and pink glowing eyes continuously appear on their PCD, with a calm expression. Finally, she was able to learn all the functions of the PCD and selected video. She looked at the contraption exuding her usual pureblood charm]

Greetings, I am Shizuka from the Hiou clan. Are there any vampires receiving this?

[She paused briefly awaiting for a response. She was confident, bordering on arrogant when she spoke. Shizuka was not afraid to reveal that she was a vampire. She was not afraid of the consequences, neither was she scared of how humans would react towards her nature. When she was sure that no response came in, she continued with a calm yet commanding voice.]

To all vampires, and to the leaders of this place, I demand an audience. This place I find myself in, is dreadful, and is no place for someone of my bloodline. I require assistance...

[Her eyes shifted to a bloodier colour as time passed. She was hungry because she has not fed on any humans since she arrived. She was waiting for a vampire, because she didn't want to turn a human unnecessarily.]

... I require nourishment. If you do not act fast, nearby citizens shall be enjoyed thoroughly.

[She had a smile on her face that was condescending and wicked as her eyes glowed brighter. Then she ended the video showing her fangs to all of adstring]


Third-Person Sample:

Within a meter of the city walls of the North East Sector, lies a woman who wore a long white silk kimono. Her small-framed and long body was hunched around a dead cherry blossom tree. She was covered in blood stains. There was a huge rip on the back and front of her kimono along the chest area. The rip was covered in dried up blood and was positioned along the woman's heart area.

Looking upon her body closely, she had no wounds on her pale skin. Except for the dried up blood covering her clothes, there was nothing else that suggested that she had any wounds. She didn't look distressed and simply appear like she was sleeping on the ground.

A few moments later, her eyelids slowly opened permitting the light to blind her eerie pink eyes. She had to immediately close them and cover her eyes using her long white sleeves. The sun's rays normally didn't sting her eyes, but keeping her lids shut for too long made it hurt. The pain she felt and the quick movement she made increased her heart rate so much that she could feel her heart pounding through her chest. Normally this wouldn't startle her, but she wasn't supposed to have a heart anymore. She was dead. Kaname dug through her chest and pulled her fragile heart from her body, before he sucked her life away. She reached for her chest slowly with her other hand. She felt it, the gentle tapping of her heart. Her heart was there, it was beating. It wasn't supposed to be there if she was dead, so she concluded that she must be alive. She didn't know how she could possibly be alive.

She slowly opened her eyes once more adjusting it to the sun's rays. It took a while, but she managed to steady her gaze. The woman reached for ground below her to raise her head and back. She tried to stand up as quickly and as gracefully as her blood-stained kimono would allow it. Her body was supposed to be sore from the battle she had with Zero and Kaname, but it wasn't. She reached for the dead tree beside her and rested her head and body along it's trunk. She looked up at the dead tree remembering her powers over plants. She thought that if she truly was dead, and this place she was in was hell, she wouldn't be able to make the tree bloom. She reached for the tree with her slender fingers and in an instant, the tree bloomed providing a thick canopy over her head. The tree was blooming so much that the cherry blossom petals quickly fell from the tree and was swept by the wind along with her long silver white hair towards the city. This was all the proof she needed. She wasn't dead, and she wasn't powerless.

The woman was aware that this wasn't cross academy, neither was it in the same realm that she grew up in. It seemed like a dangerous place which she needed to gain all possible advantages to survive. Just like her killer, Kaname, she fervently believed that life was a game of chess. Life was about knowing your enemy, examining the environment, and choosing your tactics well. This place was no different from a chessboard in her mind.

As she surveyed the city from afar, her eyes glowed bright red. Using her powers to survey the city and make the tree bloom made her very hungry. She didn't know when her last meal was, but she remembered the last person whom she consumed. Oddly as she gracefully walked towards the city, she smelled the scent of her last meal. The scent came from the man whom was bound to obey her will. Her bewildered expression slowly turned into a smile of satisfaction and amusement knowing that she was walking towards the city that was housing her Zero.
